January 1, 2025Thorne Research’s Basic Nutrients 2/Day is highly regarded for its quality, simplicity, and effectiveness. Here’s a detailed breakdown of its features:
Pros:
1. Bioavailable Forms: It includes highly absorbable forms of vitamins and minerals (e.g., methylated B vitamins like methylfolate and methylcobalamin) to enhance bioavailability.
2. Comprehensive Formula: Covers all the essential vitamins (A, C, D, E, K) and minerals (magnesium, zinc, selenium) in meaningful doses, without overloading unnecessary extras.
3. Allergen-Free: Free of common allergens like gluten, dairy, and soy, making it suitable for sensitive individuals, including vegans like you.
4. Thorne’s Reputation: Thorne is a trusted brand that undergoes rigorous third-party testing (NSF Certified for Sport), ensuring safety and potency.
5. Convenient Dosage: Only two capsules daily provide a full daily dose, making it easy to incorporate into your routine.
Cons:
1. Price: It is more expensive than some other multivitamins, though the quality justifies the cost.
2. Lacks Omega-3s: It does not include omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for overall health, so you may need a separate supplement for that.
3. Iron-Free: While great for those who don’t need additional iron, individuals with iron deficiency may need to supplement separately.
Verdict:
Thorne Basic Nutrients 2/Day is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a well-rounded multivitamin with high bioavailability and quality. It works especially well for individuals with dietary restrictions, and its clean formulation aligns with your needs. If you’re okay with the price point and don’t need extras like omega-3s or iron in your multivitamin, it’s one of the best on the market.

Quality product, excessive B12

November 2, 2024Frankly, this product is comprehensive and obviously put together by someone who knows what they are doing. However, the B12 amount is too strong, and is likely to lead to minor issues with hypertension and mood issues (quicker to anger / stress) particularly when short of sleep. Unless advised by a doctor more than 150mcg of B12 per day can be excessive and have these sorts of side affects, after switching to a seeking health multi with much lower B12 I noticed a big difference to my mood and overall health. Don't get me wrong it is a very good product, just be mindful that the B12 amount is excessive and can have an impact on your patience / personality / blood pressure. I am unsure if the levels of Chromium, Selenium and Manganese in this product may have contributed to the blood pressure issues users may experience.
Didn’t work for me

February 17, 2024I took these vitamins for just a few days (4-5 days) and experienced strong headaches during that time, even when taking just 1 capsule. I initially thought the pain came from something else until the coincidence was obvious enough. The day I stopped taking them, the headache stopped.
Regarding the yellow neon-colored pee – yes, it’s because of a high dose of B2 that the body washes out through urine. As for me, I would consider more balanced doses and mostly natural vitamins (extracted from veggies, fruits, berries, lichens, etc.).
Maybe they are quality, I don’t know. But I will not continue taking them.
*No medical prescription, just wanted to give my body some vitamins.
