October 23, 2024Giiiirl, lemme me tell you about my journey with Tarte Shape Tape in 22N! After all the Instagram hype, I finally got on the bandwagon and... well, I've got some thougts. So I'm also pretty fair-skinned, and this shade (22N) should theoretically be perfect, right? But lemme tell you - it's been a bit of a strugle. Like i mentioned, I find myself having to layer this bad boy on way more than I should for a concealer that's supposedly fuller coverage than my emotional baggage 😅 The good stuff first: When you finally get it where you want it, it does look really nice and natural. It doesn't crease too badly under my eyes (hallelujah!), and it actually stays put during my 8 hour work days. Plus, the applicater is pretty bomb - nice and fluffy and makes it easy to dot on. But here's the tea - for something that's marketed as full coverage, I'm lowkey disappointed by how much product I have to use. I'm sitting here doing like 3 layers somtimes just to cover my dark circles, which feels... excessive? And at $30 a pop, I'm not thrilled about going through it so quick. Typical makeup brand charging too much for too little. The formula is also pretty thick, which can make it look a bit cakey if your not careful with your application. I've learned to use a damp beauty blender and really work it in, but like... should I have to work this hard? Also I have the older version and I swear they changed the formula because despite being a tiny amount left in the old one, a little goes a long way…still gotta build tho, but the newer one I find that I have to build MORE. Final verdict: It's... fine? Like a solid 6.5/10. Not terrible, but definately not the holy grail everyone makes it out to be. If you've got the patience to work with it and don't mind using a bit more product, go for it. But honestly, there are other concealers out there that give better coverage right off the bat. Anyone else feeling underwhelmed by Shape Tape, or is it just me? 🤔
would recommend for oily skin

March 10, 2024This concealer is definitely matte and full coverage. It can be drying so make sure your skin is really moisturized, because of that, I don't think this would be the best for dry skin. Despite being on the more pricey side (if we're including drugstore brands) since Tarte is a high end brand, I think it's actually amazing for the money. It has 10 ml of product while most concealers I've tried have around 6 ml (like the Nars Radiant creamy and the Hourglass Vanish) so almost twice the product. A little sidenote is that this concealer smells good. What's annoying is it oxidizes like CRAZY for me. I originally bought 20S Light Sand because it looked like my shade in the bottle, but it ended up being way too orange for me. I have fair skin with neutral undertones (the tiniest bit leaning warm if it was between warm and cool, but overall I am very neutral). Then I tried 12N Fair Neutral which is their lightest neutral shade (I actually meant to pick up 16N Fair Light Neutral but picked this one by accident) and I thought it would be too light, but it ended up oxidizing and it was good for my forehead which is obviously darker, but still looked orange on the rest of my face. I am very fair, but thereare definitely people who are even more fair so if you are VERY VERY fair, I don't this could work on you considering how much it oxidizes, even more so than any drugstore concealers I've tried. I think if you are oily or oily-combination like me and you can find your shade, this is a good concealer. but for dry skin/if you are very very fair, this wouldn't work. I give it about a 7/10 based on solely the product performance, as it is long lasting and matte which I like, and also smells really good, but can be a little drying. It's unfortunate how much it oxidizes.
Update your models and why you demo this range

May 27, 2024There is no doubt this product is Amazing , but only when you get the correct colour to match your skin tone. I have followed tarte on from the start and to this day l cannot get the concealer to match my skin tone. Their models are mainly white and only recently started have an Indian model to demo the product (not every time it airs) . Not have a diversity of models in the 21st-century on a shopping channel has been going over 30 years to this date shocks me, even when you have guests on, talk to customers, feedback from customers, where is is the diversity. Ruth Langford, Laura, Galler, Mally, etc demo their range on none Indian models. Surely when beauty shows are on your models should be mixed. Don’t know how times l have ordered this range following the sales rep who talks ridiculous too fast and does not explain the skin tones correctly. What does it mean by olive skin to warm, you talking to the audience why are you not using straight forward words, have the models then explain the skin tone. When your doing the demos you colours don’t match skin chart for example 44tan but then online it will say tan if the customer wasn’t already confused this clearly is confusing. Sorry to say but the sales rep needs to be clearly, over 15 yrs watching tarte need better commentary the range.
try before buying full size

January 9, 2024I use the shape tape concealer to cut a crease and clean up small areas like winged liner/shadow and flaws around my lips when wearing bold lipstick bc thats easier than trying to rub it off and having smear all over my face.
I find this concealer to be the best for cutting creases and creating negative space with eye looks. I'm 44 with dry skin so I stopped wearing complexion products years ago. I do a lot of bold and smoky eye looks and always use glitter or shimmery shades (I highly recommend trying some liquid shadows if you look bold and blingy looks without having glitter all over your face) that tend to land under my eyes during application, brushes will always fling the glitter everywhere. I'll use A wipe to clean it up around my eyes but if I don't have any handy I'll just tap a tiny dot of this to cover the mess. when not using this, I'll tap a light eye shadow or cream shadow/highlight shade with my finger. if you've learned contouring watching yt or ig tutorials where they pour concealer all over around the eyes-- keep in mind it may be necessary for photoshoots, theatrical performers, people under set lighting in front of cameras, but not necessary for the average person. it's wayyy too much product and will cake up, crease, and accentuate dry skin and fine lines like a magnifying glass. then putting powder or baking will make it worse no matter which brand you use. matte complexion products shouldn't be used on dry skin or mature skin. tinted moisturizers, creams, and Dewey products work better.
if you're having problems with creasing, caking, and dryness with this concealer- you're probably using too much product. try putting a small dollup on the back of your hand and use a finger to tap it on pressing it in or using a smaller brush besides the applicator.
you can also add a little of a moisurizer mixed on your hand then applied to keep it from drying out your skin.
